Dark Force Race Kit

v2, the Langkawi edition

A one-piece trisuit for long-course racing in Southeast Asian heat, in the same charcoal, teal and ember as this site. Every panel, pocket and colour on it answers a race-day problem.

  • Ordered
  • Race debut: November 21, 2026
  • Made to measure

Last updated October 14, 2026. Next update: when the suit arrives.

The brief

Designed backwards from race day.

Four problems from a tropical long-course day shaped every decision on this suit. The logo came last.

Langkawi water is expected at about 29°C, so the suit races the swim too. Concept render.

02

Fuel

The problem

A rear pocket is a blind grab at speed, and earlier suits taught us that the hard way.

The answer

Race fuel moves to the bike and the run belt. The suit carries gels in side pockets you can see, and keeps its rear pockets for backup.

03

Toilet stops

The problem

A one-piece is a hassle in a portable toilet.

The answer

A full-length zip opens the suit at the front instead of peeling it off. On course, IRONMAN allows a front zip open to any length if it stays connected at the bottom and the shoulders stay covered, so the same zip doubles as a vent. It must be fully zipped at the finish.

04

A non-wetsuit swim

The problem

Langkawi water is expected at about 29°C, and age-group wetsuits are allowed only up to 24.5°C.

The answer

The suit is the swimwear. IRONMAN requires textile swimwear that does not extend past the elbow or the knee, so the sleeves and legs stop short of both.

01

Front

Teal sun zones

The yoke, both sleeves, the upper back and the outer thighs take the most direct sun on the bike and the run. They carry electric teal, the lightest panel colour in the palette.

The colour system

Teal where the sun lands. Charcoal where it doesn't.

IronPreneur is dark by design, and dark fabric runs hot in direct sun. Measured outdoors, black fabric absorbed 61% of solar radiation against 17% for white. In a TU Delft test, the skin side of black fabric ran 5 to 10°C hotter in sunlight than white or reflective fabric. Under an artificial sun, heart rate during an hour on a cycle ergometer averaged 154 beats per minute in black polyester against 142 in white.

The first concept answered with Coldblack, a finish its maker says reflects up to 80% of heat rays. The supplier for v2 does not offer it, so v2 answers with placement. Teal is not white, but it is far lighter than charcoal and it stays on brand; a Triathlete reviewer chose a white upper on his Regna suit for the same reason.

Sleeves and side panels are rated UPF 50+, the top rating, which blocks about 98% of UV.

The suit and this site share one set of colour tokens. For print, the supplier converted each sRGB value to the nearest Pantone reference.

Not on this suit: a Coldblack finish and Omius cooling pieces. The reasons are in the next section.

The thinking

Five calls, and what each one costs.

Kit decisions are trade-offs. These are the ones behind v2, with the cost of each written down.

01

One-piece, for now.

Regna offers full custom design only on its one-piece suits; its tri tops and shorts come in preset designs. A one-piece also cannot ride up at the lower back in the aero position. The cost: a sit-down toilet stop still means arms out of the sleeves. The format for Da Nang is decided after Langkawi.

02

Fuel off the suit.

A bento box and stem flask on the bike, a race belt on the run, gels in the side pockets, rear pockets for backup. The cost: more to set up in transition, in exchange for never reaching blind.

03

Placement over Coldblack.

Regna does not offer Coldblack. AP3X, a custom maker that builds to the Coldblack standard, lists 3 days for design plus 25 to 30 working days for production and delivery: too slow for November. A TU Delft test also found that coldblack-treated fabric let through substantially more solar heat than dedicated reflective fabrics. Colour placement does the job for v2, and Coldblack stays on the shortlist for Da Nang.

04

No Omius.

Omius cooling pieces are graphite that gives water five times more surface area to evaporate from. In a peer-reviewed test of the Omius headband in 35°C heat, forehead temperature dropped, but rectal temperature, heart rate and 5 km time-trial performance did not improve. Regna's product pages also do not say where the pieces sit on its suits. Not a bet worth taking on race day.

05

Fit from a scan, with no safety net.

The suit is cut from a two-photo PHOTOtoFIT scan that captures more than 100 measurements. The cost is risk: custom pieces cannot be returned for fit. Fit also changes through a build, so Da Nang gets a fresh scan in March 2027.

Off the course

The trucker cap.

The cap repeats the suit's V-split: a teal crown, ember V piping, an ember top button and a charcoal front with the icon and wordmark, on a mesh back.

It is kit for the days around a race, from travel and briefings to the walk back from the finish, and not for the race itself. So it is not held to race-cap criteria such as a soft, sweat-absorbing inner band.

  • Teal crown above an ember V
  • Charcoal front with icon and wordmark
  • Black mesh sides and back
  • Snapback strap

Made by

Who makes it, and what that means.

The suit is made to measure by Regna, headquartered in Singapore with its factory in Vietnam, near Ho Chi Minh City. Its PHOTOtoFIT app cuts the pattern from two phone photos and more than 100 body measurements.

Independent reviews in 2026 were positive and specific. Triathlete reported no chafing after more than 30 km of swimming, 800 km of riding, 160 km of running and a 70.3. Slowtwitch praised the fit, and flagged a fiddly ice pocket, separate hem grippers and a slightly long torso.
